... a startup looking to build some strong infrastructure while getting your product out of the door quickly?
... a small business in need of some advice on how to use the web to your advantage?
... an established team looking for additional brainpower?
Hey, I am Joe, 36, from Germany.
I grew up with computers, became a developer and even while building my second career as a personal trainer and health coach I never lost touch with the nerd in me.
Over the years I gained experience in different fields and work environments (see full bio below), and am now looking for an engaging project to let my skills shine.
Besides my technical expertise I gathered a wide range of useful skills over the years.
I have experience in things like video production and 3D animation, health and fitness coaching, public speaking, presenting, and Jiu-Jitsu.
Your data is your business.
Whether you need a custom RESTful API, a new database schema, or optimizations to your existing backend, I am there to ensure your application's data goes where it should go.
Having grown up with jQuery, I truly enjoy using modern frontend frameworks like React.
Let me build you user interfaces that make sense, perform well and are fun to interact with.
I love automated systems. There is nothing more satisfying than watching a computer do tedious tasks for you.
With an eye for detail and backups, I can streamline your operations to save you time and money.
I understand how business works and what IT needs to deliver to make it happen.
From data analysis to streamlining workflows, I can give you the tools you need to make your business a success.
Since 2017 I made my passion into a job and have been training people to be fit, strong and healthy. In 2023 I co-founded an online gym business for remote workers which I am still involved in.
It is a great opportunity for putting all my experience together and setting up business infrastructure that is scalable and easy to use. At the same time I get more insights into the worlds of marketing & sales, business management and customer service.
NomadStrong is primed for slow and organic growth, which gives me the space to invest my time and energy into your project.
Projects for Strandbutler included improvements to their customer service pipeline, website, admin backend and end-user app.
I was responsible for adding new features to the Backoffice, which included setting up new API endpoints in Nestjs, retrieving them via GraphQL and adding new modules to the React Frontend. Fixing tickets in the end-user app gave me my first experience with React Native.
I also resolved issues with the website using Gatsby and GraphQL.
This experience as a freelancer taught me to adapt quickly to changing requirements and to manage my time and projects efficiently.
It showed me that the time I invested in communication and project management skills was well spent.
I joined recycleHero, a sustainability focused recycling startup, as the 4th employee and the first IT person. This made me responsible for getting the IT up to speed for the planned growth. Taking the product out of MVP stage and building solid infrastructure was an engaging and educational challenge.
Together with my team I set up a Docker/Kubernetes core, making the website with the checkout funnel, the driver app and an admin backend deployable to other cities. I built a lot of the software solutions myself, mainly the first version of the website and the web-app used by the drivers. This was my chance to update my skills and I dove all into React.
I was responsible for managing and coordinating between our in-house team and the freelancers we worked with. I also set up and managed all kinds of business software like Google Workspace, Hubspot and Sipgate.
Seeing a startup grow almost from scratch gave me a whole new perspective on the business world and the complexities of running a successful company.
After studying IT for 3 semesters, I realized that I was more interested in something practical.
In my apprenticeship at SevenVal I learned the fundamentals of software development while working on FitMl, a server-side, responsive web development framework from the days before before HTML 5 and media queries. Mobile data was still expensive and so I learned to really think about what my code will do to prevent unnecessary bloat.
During my time at SevenVal I worked on all parts of the product, the PHP based backend, the mySql database, the testing suite, the server administration, website and customer support.
It is also where I became proficient in bash scripting and finding smart solutions for day-to-day time-wasters. My team lead gave me "The pragmatic programmer" to read and until today it shapes my philosophy around coding and working in dev-teams.
I would love to join a small team of professionals, either improving an existing project or building something from scratch.
As a freelancer I can support you with a wide range of projects, reach out to find out what we can do.
Being able to work remotely is a priority for me.
If your project is truly saving the world I am willing to relocate but otherwise I am all about async efficiency. Of course, we can always meet up for a kick-off event .
